our community again this year, and I hope you enjoy the play. Since
I’ve written elsewhere in this program about <i>A Christmas Carol</i>,
I’d like to use this space to tell you about our upcoming summer season
(it seems like it’s just around the corner – we’ve been planning it for
several months now!).</span><span style='font-size:8.5pt;font-family:

font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>We will again be presenting two
Shakespeare plays in the Mary Rippon Outdoor Theatre – <i>Romeo and
Juliet</i> and <i>The Comedy of Errors</i>. It’s been seven years
since audiences have seen either of these plays, and given how popular
both are, we feel that it’s time to take another look at them. I’m
pleased to announce that <i>Romeo and Juliet</i> will be presented in a
full period production - a gorgeous and romantic Italian Renaissance
setting, completely true to the period. We haven’t decided on a
setting for <i>The Comedy of Errors</i>, but we know it’ll be true to
Shakespeare’s intent. (We’re looking for a period that suits the
material, of course – Shakespeare based his play on an earlier work by
the Roman playwright Plautus, and set it in ancient Ephesus, so that’s
one possibility). However we decide to approach the play, I can guarantee
it’ll be funny – it’s perhaps Shakespeare’s most hilarious work, and
we’re looking for ways to ensure that you’ll all be rolling in the aisles
(well, maybe not all of you; that could get crowded!). And, it’s
perfect for the kids!</span><span style='font-size:8.5pt;font-family:

<p style='margin:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt'><span style='font-size:8.5pt;

<p style='margin:0in;margin-bottom:.0001pt'><span style='font-size:10.5pt;
font-family:"Arial","sans-serif"'>We have two special treats for you
indoors next summer. Thanks to a $40,000 gift from The Opaline Fund
of the Jewish Community Endowment Fund in San Francisco, as well as an
additional $15,000 in grant support, we are able to present one of the
great comedies of world theatre – Nikolai Gogol’s 19th-century
Russian farce, <i>The Inspector General</i> (sometimes called <i>The
Government Inspector</i>). In keeping with our desire to bring you
classics from many countries, involving artists from those cultures, the
play will be directed by Efim Zvenyatsky, esteemed artistic director of
Vladivostok’s Maxim Gorky Theatre (the largest theatre in eastern
Russia), with scenic and costume designs by Moscow designer Vladimir
Koltunov. In addition, selected performances will be bi-lingual
(with some actors speaking English and some speaking Russian), featuring
actors from the Gorky Theatre, all of whom hold national titles (such as
“Honored Artist of Russia”), conferred on them by the President of the
Russian Federation. Some of you may know the play from the 1949 film
musical it inspired, starring Danny Kaye. But whether you know it
or not, don’t miss it – this is a very funny play which is also very
timely.</span><span style='font-size:8.5pt;font-family:"Verdana","sans-serif"'><o:p></o:p></span></p>

another classic intended for adults and children alike – a stage
adaptation of Antoine de Saint-Exupery’s much-loved novella, <i>The
Little Prince</i> (<i>Le Petit Prince</i>), one of the best-selling books
of all time. This magical adaptation is true to both the text and
to the author’s own illustrations from the original edition, and it
offers a message for both children and adults – as the title character
says, “It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is
essential is invisible to the eye.”</span><span style='font-size:8.5pt;
