The High Plains Drafters of Cheyenne Wyoming is hosting their 15th Annual
Eight Seconds of Froth on Saturday, May 9th. This is BJCP sanctioned competition
for all beer and mead/cider categories. This is my initial, directed email
to BJCP judges and other judges who have participated in previous 8 Seconds of
Froth competitions. We're solicting entries, but just as important, judges
and stewards. I apologize that many of you might receive multiple copies of
this announcement. However, I don't want to miss the opportunity to contact many
of you who might not be in the BJCP judge database.
Check out our website http://www.bbriggs.vcn.com/8seconds.html for
complete details including entry deadlines and entry drop off locations throughout
the Rocky Mountain front range.
This year our judging and awards site will be at the historic Plains Hotel
in downtown Cheyenne WY. This year's competition will be a qualifying event
for the 2009 GABF Pro-AM competition. Brewmaster Nathan Venner of the
Altitude Chophouse and Brewery in Laramie WY will be selecting the BOS beer or one of
the other category winning beers to be brewed and entered in this year's 2009
GABF Pro-Am competition.
This is the fifth year of our Aces of Clubs competition within a
competition. Homebrew clubs will be awarded points for each entry, judge and steward, and
for all 1st, 2nd, 3rd place winners in each category also BOS beer and BOS
mead. The winning club receives a travelling trophy they get to hold on to for
the year. Previous winners have been Foam on the Range-2005, Keg Ran Out
Club-2006, Liquid Poets-2007 and Keg Ran Out Club-2008.
IMPORTANT INFO REGARDING THIS YEAR'S COMPETITION:
1. Entries are due NLT 12 noon on Saturday, 2 May. Don't forget that this
is also the date of AHA's Big Brew Day and most Front Range clubs are
scheduling events that afternoon.
2. Judges and stewards thinking about spending Saturday night in Cheyenne
following the judging/awards ceremony should consider a special offer that the
Plains Hotel at $69--check out the website for additional details.
3. If you're a homebrewer who has never judged at a BJCP/AHA sanctioned
competition before, consider volunteering to serve as a steward. You'll have the
opportunity to work at a table with two to three experienced judges, hear
their comments, and often have a chance to also sample many of the entries.
4. Feel free to pass this information on to anyone else you think might be
interesting in either entering the competition and/or judging/stewarding.
5. And remember the actual judging/awards ceremony site will once again be
in Cheyenne Wyoming this year!
Please contact Brian Mertz, windywy at aol.com to sign up to judge or steward or
