Reminder:
Fellow Front Range homebrewers, judges, etc. Spring should arrive any day
now. We've already had a multitude of homebrew competitions, special
homebrewing and craft brewing events this year and we still have three more to
come in the in the next couple months: Eight Seconds of Froth on 22 May, Liquid
Poetry Slam on 6 June and the National Homebrewers Conference/Competition
in mid June in Minneapolis. Our two remaining front range competitions need
your continued support.
The entry window is or soon will be open for both of these competitions.
First, we need your entries. (Mark your entries carefully so that we do not
mix up entries between these two competitions.) For new homebrewers, this is
a great opportunity to have your brewing efforts evaluated by trained and
experienced judges. We also both need judges and stewards to volunteer
another day or two out of their busy schedules. Several of the local clubs
have recently completed BJCP training classes and judge exams. These
competitions are a great opportunity to gain additional judging experience. We
need your help whether you are currently studying or if you results from a
recent exam are pending.
The High Plains Drafters of Cheyenne Wyoming is hosting their 16th Annual
Eight Seconds of Froth on Saturday, May 22th. This is a BJCP sanctioned
competition for all beer and mead/cider categories.
We're soliciting entries, but just as important, judges and stewards.
It's now time to start dropping off entries and to sign up to judge or
steward. (Lunch will be provided for all our judges and stewards.) Check out
our website http://www.bbriggs.vcn.com/8seconds.html for complete details
including drop off locations. Entries are due by noon, Saturday, 15 May at
drop off locations throughout the Rocky Mountain front range. (Entries in
Casper, WY are due buy 5 pm, Friday, 14 May)
This year our judging and awards site will once again be at the historic
Plains Hotel in downtown Cheyenne WY. This year's competition will be a
qualifying event for the 2010 GABF Pro-AM competition. Brewmaster Nathan Venner
of the Altitude Chophouse and Brewery in Laramie WY will be selecting one
of the category winning beers to be brewed and entered in this year's 2010
GABF Pro-Am competition.
This is the sixth year of our Ace of Clubs competition within a
competition. Homebrew clubs will be awarded points for each entry, judge and steward,
and for all 1st, 2nd, 3rd place winners in each
category also BOS beer and BOS mead. The winning club receives a
traveling trophy that they get to hold on to for the year. Previous winners have
been Foam on the Range-2005, Keg Ran Out Club-2006, Liquid Poets-2007, Keg Ran
Out Club-2008 and Superior HBC-2009. Be certain to list your homebrew
club on your entry forms.
Please email me to sign up to judge or steward, or if you have any
questions. Please forward this email to anyone else you think my be interested in
participating.
Thank you.
