Hi everyone,
I wanted to make sure that all of the Liquid Poets are invited to the two
events I mentioned at the last club meeting. These are two mead oriented
events that I'm involved in for the Northern Colorado Beekeepers
Association, which is a great group of beekeepers. I'd really like some of
our brewers to participate so we can have some cross pollination.
So here are the events:
Structured Mead Tasting: Saturday, 8 November (2-4pm)
-------------------------------------------------------
John Maday (a homebrewer and beekeeper) and I will host a structured mead
tasting at John's house. This will feature a set of meads that we have
selected to show what mead is about and to contrast some different flavors.
We may have some special guests bringing a couple of additional meads for
that event.
After the structured tasting portion, we'll have a more general session of
mead tasting. For this, we're asking people to bring a mead to share if
they'd like. I've told the beekeepers that I'd prefer that these meads are
either homebrewed or commercial products that they know and like (as opposed
to feeling obligated to bring something).
All in all, this is a great opportunity to meet some beekeepers, learn
something about the wonderful world of mead, and sample some great mead.
Mead Brewing Demonstration: Sunday, 16 November (noon-3pm)
-----------------------------------------------------------
I will be hosting a mead brewing event at my house. The plan for this event
is for me and, ideally, some others to brew a batch of mead and give people
an idea of what's involved in the process. I'd really like to get some
others brewing at the same time to show some different alternatives and
approaches, sort of make it like a mini Mead Day. Sheron is planning to
come to this event and talk about care and feeding, too.
Finally, Sheron and I are planning to teach a more formal class in mead
making for the beekeepers (and maybe others) that go over the process for
honey bucket (or earlier;-) to glass. We still need to set a date for this.
This class will have a more limited enrollment, so people will get the most.
We will have the students bring some honey and a small token fee and they
will brew their own personal batch of mead in the course of the class.
So, lots of mead stuff coming up. I hope some of you will join us.
