[Liquidpoets] May Meeting
Liquid Poets President
president at liquidpoets.com
Sun May 2 20:26:21 MDT 2010
The next meeting is this Thursday, May 6 at Odell Brewery - 7pm.
Chad Yakobson will be giving a talk about brewing with Brettanomyces that
should be pretty interesting. This will be held in the conference room
adjacent to the tasting room after the meeting starts.
Liquid Poetry Slam
Our summer homebrew competition is approaching quickly - it's going to be
held June 6th at the newly opened Equinox Brewery next to Hops and Berries.
Information is available at http://slam.liquidpoets.com/
* We'll be looking for volunteers for a planning group to handle various
things like picking up and organizing the entries, contacting local
resources, etc. Let someone at the meeting know if you would like to help
out.
* If you are interested in judging or stewarding we'll have a sign up sheet
as well, you can register online, or you can send me an email.
* And of course we'll be looking for a good showing of entries - it's always
nice to have a good showing at your own competition. The online registration
at the link above should be working.
Next IBC
Looks like I get to pick the next one, so I'm going to go with a
"Lemon-esque" challenge. Essentially the best beer that incorporates some
sort of lemon flavor wins. It doesn't have to be actual lemon - lemon
verbena, lemongrass, lemon skittles are all potential ingredients. August is
probably the best month for judging this so let's plan on that for the
moment.
Competitions
The 16th Annual 8 Seconds of Froth is on the 22nd of May. Entries are due
the 15th. I'm sure Brian is also looking for judges and stewards to help out
so track him down at the meeting. More information is available here:
http://www.bbriggs.vcn.com/8seconds.html
The Gnarly Barley and Colorado State Fair competitions are coming up in
August and our mead competion (the Muse Cup) will be in September - I'll
post more information about them as they get nearer.
Unfortunately I'm out of town again this week, so Alex will be running the
show again. I am trying to track down some good beer here in New York
though. Enjoy yourselves!
matt (the absentee president)
