Hi all! Hopefully the first month in 2011 has been good to everyone and I
hope we're all stoked for another Liquid Poets meeting! The meeting will be
held at Funkwerks at 7:00pm on Thursday, February 3rd and will include the
long-awaited judging for the Steam Beer Iron Brewer Challenge. Entries are
$5 a piece, winner takes all and gets to name the next challenge. Show up
at 6:30pm for a tour! Funkwerks is one of the newest breweries to open in
Northern Colorado and is using Fort Collins Brewing's old location at 1900
E. Lincoln Ave, 1 mile East of Odell Brewing Company on Lincoln. They've
got a nifty product line of organic saisons, check them out at
www.Funkwerks.com and I hope to see you there!
Other announcements include:
The Missouri Valley Wine Society is holding it's 3rd Annual MVWS Wine and
Label Competition on February 20th. Entry deadline is February 14th. They
will be awarding prizes and gift certificates (over $1,500 worth, best of
show will win a 5 gallon oak barrel!) for winners in 12 categories, more
information can be found at www.mvws.org .
Our good friends in Colorado Springs are hosting their annual competition
again with Rocky Mountain Brewery selecting a brewer for their GABF Pro-Am
beer. Entries are due February 2nd (get 'em in quick!) and they are asking
$5/entry or $20 for unlimited, judging will be in accordance with BJCP style
guidelines. The competition is on the 12th and the brew/awards festival is
the 18th. Go to http://brewbrosco.wordpress.com/ for more information and

We have been contacted by Robert with a local Fort Collins gardening group
called Home Grown Foods, they are seeking out brewers who are looking to
give away spent grain for composting. This is a great opportunity to
support local micro-agriculture while getting rid of spent brewing waste,
hassle free since I'm willing to bet that a local gardener would be more
than happy to stop by your place and pick up your spent grain. Check them
