All,

Learn to homebrew (mead) day is* November 5th*. It'll be at my house (4009
Glenarbor LN, Ft Collins 80524) starting at *10am*. Welcoming all interested
in making mead, experienced or not.

We'll talk mead, drink mead, and make mead. I'll show how to make mead the
'fast' way with Staggered Nutrient Additions and stirring. I strongly
recommend starting with a traditional mead (without spices or fruit) to
begin with. That being said I'll gladly help with making/designing a fruit
or spice mead, send me an email ahead of time if you want to make one on the
5th so that you'll have the needed ingredients.

You can be drinking a session mead in as little as two months. Those start
with 5-8lbs of honey and possibly some fruit or spices. I should have a
couple of these on tap to enjoy.

A 'standard' strength mead, around 10-14%, is ready to drink in 9-12 months.

A 'sack' strength mead, over 14%, is usually ready to drink in 12-18 months.

*Ingredients you should bring* (for a 5 gallon batch)*:*

   - Fermaid K (you need around 12g) - available at H&B
   - DAP (you need around 8g) - available at H&B
   - Go-Ferm (10g) - available at H&B
   - Yeast (recommend *D47* for a first traditional mead, if dark fruits *
D21*, if fruits high in malic acid (e.g. apple) or if 'session mead' *
71B-1122*, if fermenting above 70F *K1V-1116*, if high alcohol *DV10 *or
   *EC-1118*) - available at H&B (except D21 and DV10)
   - Honey 5-18lbs, a semi-sweet traditional with D47 will need 15lbs (I
have buckwheat, orange blossom, and ND Wildflower for purchase for around
   $2/lb)

*Equipment:*

   - Carboy/fermenting vessel
   - Funnel (if you have one)

*Optional, but a good idea* (stirring results in better mead)*:*

   - Lees stirrer (Looks like this - Lees
Stirrer<http://morewinepro.com/view_product/19688/100485?PHPSESSID=50f25fb72475b47a97>,
H&B
   usually has them in stock)

I have a thermometer and 2 scales (a gram scale and a lb scale). If you have
a scale or a thermometer it would be good to bring.

Thanks,
Kyle
