Hi all!
The next Liquid Poets meeting will be held Thursday, October 6th at Pateros
Creek Brewing (owned and operated by long-time club member Steve Jones)
located at 242 North College Avenue in Fort Collins, CO. The meeting will
start at 7pm with a tour available for those of you who show up at 6:30.
We'll have our normal meeting format with club announcements, a general
tasting and tasting panel(s). As always our calendar of events can be found
at:

Speaking of upcoming events, it's that time of year to start thinking about
donating a little of your time and experience (not money, we have enough) to
maintain the club's current high level of awesomeness. In the short term
we're looking for volunteers to brew beer for the upcoming holiday party;
every December we throw a party that includes a chairity auction, 6-8 kegs
of homebrew, and a pot-luck dinner with the club supplying main courses. At
this time we'd like to encourage club members to volunteer a batch
of their own home brew to be served at the party, we'll even pick up the
cost and come to your house to keg it for you. If you want to do it as your
first all-grain beer but don't feel confident about taking the first step
email me at president at liquidPoets.com and I'll round up some friends and
we'll come over and lend a hand. Hell, I'll let you come to my place and
use my swanky new setup. Like I said, we're footing the bill so consider
this as an opportunity to improve your brewing skills on our dime while
supplying a club party with some locally made beer. If you're interested
please email me at president at liquidPoets.com and we'll put you down for five
gallons, sign-up soon so that we know the beer will be ready come party time
and can make arraignments if you need help brewing and/or kegging.
On that note, if you would like to mentor a new brewer or try to teach some
new tricks to an old one go to www.LiquidPoets.com, find the forums, and
post a general invite to your next brew session or hit the "Reply" button to
this email to send a note to the whole mailing list. If you're still
reading this email you're probably really into beer and home brewing and
getting pumped about your next batch. Why not take it a step further and
teach a friend to homebrew and get them into the hobby too!
We're getting club T-shirts so that we can represent Fort Collins/Severance
home brewing culture but we don't have a proper club slogan. We're thinking
of using "Brewing with Altitude" (stolen from a past festival) but want the
club to come front the ideas. Bring your ideas to the next meeting, email a
board member, post it on the forums or hire a sky writer: we're desperate
for ideas. Your slogan will appear on the club website and all future
schwag bearing the Liquid Poets logo.
Another thing that comes to us at the end of the year are club elections,
check out the available positions on the upper left corner of
www.LiquidPoets.com labeled "Membership Bylaws". Or just click this link:
http://www.liquidpoets.com/LPbylaws.doc Serving on the board of directors
is a fantastic way to give back to the local home beer/mead/wine making
community. Tasting glasses don't grow on trees. Winter parties, campouts,
Big Brew, monthly meetings, and competitions aren't planned by a small group
of politicians in dark, smoke filled rooms. A lot of time goes into running
the brew club that I hope all of you enjoy being a part of and for as little
as four evenings a year you can make a difference on the board at large.
We'll have more details at the October meeting including a break down of
the responsibilities behind the named positions. Nominations open soon!
2011 has been a wonderful year so far and I look forward to the next three
months!
Thanks,
Brian Thompson
