Slight clarification: I believe the Iron Brewer challenge is spruce beers, though I expect juniper beer would also be appropriate.
I also have a few rhizomes to give away at the meeting. Tettnang and Cascade.

Subject: [Liquidpoets] April LP Meeting - New Belgium Brewery @ 7:00 PM
Hey Poets,
First off, I'd like to apologize for the last minute communication and second it's HOP CROP Month!
Our next LP meeting will be at New Belgium Brewery on Thursday April 6st @ 7:00 PM.
We will have a beer social for the first ~ 15 min. Please bring any homebrews you would like to share with the group.
1) Remi and Doc will be giving talks on hop cultivation and usage. Remi sent out a flyer that outlines his talk. I would encourage you to print it, and bring it to the meeting. We will be doing things a little differently than previous years when it comes to talks. I would like to dedicate approx. 15 min for each speaker to address the entire group instead of the smaller breakout groups that we use to do. These guys are both very knowledgeable brewers and we could all learn something from their contributions. Also, at least two people are bringing at least three varieties of extra hop rhizomes from their yard. Here is your chance to start growing your own at home!
2) We will be doing tasting panel. If you have any beers (or meads and ciders) that you want specific feedback on please bring them. This is an opportunity to get very direct comments on beer attributes and style for your good or bad beers. Also, if you have beer that you know has a specific "problem" - bring it! This is a great educational opportunity to train other people on beer attributes and taints. Don't be ashamed, there are only two types of brewers, those that have brewed bad beer and those that will!
3) Kolsch (BJCP: 6C) is the April style of the month. If you have a Kolsch, please bring it for the table. There will be a few commercial examples for calibration and tasting and then we will get into the homebrews. These discussions will be lead by BJCP judges and is a great opportunity to really dissect the diversity and qualification for certain beer styles. For brewers who are interested in learning how competition beer judging works - this is the table to be seated at!
4) Just a reminder, at the MAY meeting, we will be selecting the AHA club only competition representative for Scottish and Irish Ale. If you have any of these beers (BJCP 9: A-E) please bring it. A panel of BJCP and non-BJCP judges will select the best example of style and send it along. It doesn't cost anything to enter the selection process and if you win, the club will pay for your shipping and entry cost. If you want to enter an Irish ale for both style of the month table and the AHA club only selection table, bring 2 bottles. This will take some time to go through, so if your entering of judging please come on time and be prepared to get started right away.
5) May style of the Month is Irish Red (BJCP:9D).
6) Alex Grote has volunteered to do the follow up brew day on April 6th at his house. He will be brewing his Kinder-Kolsch - a 3% abv (not exactly to style) session beer.
7) Just a reminder Iron Brewer challenge is Juniper beers and will be judged at the June meeting.

Big Brew
Hops and Berries, as usual, wants to host a Big Brew event on Saturday, May 5th. The details are still being arranged and I will be in touch with you guys as they develop. We are looking for volunteers to host. If you have a space large enough to accommodate this brew session (and party), please contact me or Taylor Caron (Manager at hopsandberries.com) to begin this discussion.

Joe
