Hi all -

This was great - we got a lot of responses. Tyler and Elan got back quickly and have been added to the project. That brings the total number of brewers to 13; it is good to have a bit of buffer in case some of the batches are less than a full 5 gallons.

We will have another project in six months to replace the porter when we take it out of the barrel. The rest of you have first choice for that project.

Hi my name is Matt. I just joined the club last month, so we probably haven't met. I would love to contribute. How many gallons do you need? I can do up to 10 gal. Attached is picture of my brew rig. Let me know.

Cheers!Matt Smith

Hi Brewers and Brewsters -

One of the brewers for the upcoming New Belgium Brewing barrel project had to drop out due to sudden family issues. We are looking for a replacement.

This project will be based on Jonas Porter. We have access to a fairly young barrel that may contribute some oak flavor. The barrel currently has La Folie in it. We will leave the porter in the barrel for six months, which should give it a bit of acidity while still retaining porter character.

The transfer will be Wednesday February 8th. We want to have completed primary by that time, so you should brew in the next week or so.

If you want to join the project, please let me know!

------------ old news ------------

We have confirmed with Lauren and Eric that racking into the barrel will be Wednesday 2/8.
Try to get your brewing done by mid January so we have clear beer to
rack into the barrel. Let me know when you have your share brewed.

Plan to meet in the tasting room 2/8 at 4:45. We have lots to do so don't be late!

'Tis the season to be brewing!

Hello barrel project brewers -

In order to give everyone plenty of time to plan their brew day, let's pick Jonas Porter as our target recipe for the next NBB barrel project. We will use a different barrel from our previous projects; the selected barrel is younger (two previous uses) and may contribute some oak and blackberry-bourbon flavors. The barrel is currently full of La Folie.

We will age the beer for about six months in the barrel. We hope to retain most of the porter character, while adding a significant wild note. I think this beer will be amazing!

Plan to brew five gallons of Jonas Porter (http://www.hopsandberries.com/recipe.php?id=98) between now and mid-January.
If you want to make an extract approximation of the recipe that is fine; Hops and Berries can suggest appropriate substitutions. The barrel has plenty of "bugs", so ferment with a standard porter yeast.

Please respond to me or post to the Liquid Poets discussion board when you have brewed.

Thanks to Lauren and Eric Salizar for offering this opportunity! The Liquid Poets greatly appreciate your time and effort.
