 Hey Poets,

 

Our next LP meeting will be at Odell Brewing Co. on Thursday June 7th @ 7:00
PM. 

 

 

We will have a beer social for the first ~ 15 min.  You can bring any
homebrews you would like to share with the group, however, we will also have
a lot of leftover competition beers so it is not really necessary.   

 

1)  Belgian Pale Ale  (BJCP: 16b) is the June style of the month.  If you
have a Belgian Pale Ale, please bring it for the table.  There will one
(Avery Karma) commercial example for calibration and tasting and then we
will get into the homebrews.  These discussions will be lead by BJCP judges
and is a great opportunity to really dissect the diversity and qualification
for certain beer styles.  For brewers who are interested in learning how
competition beer judging works - this is the table to be seated at! 

 

2)  We are looking for someone to do a follow-up brew day.  If someone is
interested in hosting a brew session at their house while brewing a Belgian
Pale Ale please let me know.  The club will offer some support for food and
beer.

 

3)  Iron Brewer Rod Simpson has brought the Spruce Tip beer challenge and
these beers will be judged at this meeting.  The winner gets to name the
next challenge!  Bring a bottle if you got one plus a $5 entry fee.

 

4)  Also, congratulations to all the poets who took home medals up in
Cheyenne at the 8 sec of Froth Comp.

 

5)  Lastly, a special congratulations is in order to long time club members,
Rod and Anne Simpson, on the recent birth of their baby boy.

6/3/12 - Liquid Poetry Slam in Fort Collins, CO ($7 and 2 bottles per entry)

For those who are unaware - this competition is hosted by us (the liquid
poets).  It takes a lot of work to pull this off, but it is also a lot of
fun.  We are still in need of stewards (mostly) and judges.  If you are
available on Saturday (June 2nd) or Sunday (June 3rd) please go to the
website and register before midnight on Saturday or contact Alex Grote
(alexgrote at grotegang.com).  We will need all the help we can get.  Our
finally tally was 564 beer entries which is a record for a club hosted
competition in the state of Colorado.  

 

Saturday June 2nd - 2 sessions

1:00 PM and 5:00 PM @ the Hops and Berries South store

 

Sunday June 3rd - 2 sessions

9:00 AM and 1:00 PM @ Odell Brewing Company

Lunch will be catered from 11:30 AM - 1:00 PM

 

The awards ceremony will start around 5:00 PM.

 

If you can make any or all of these sessions but have not been in touch with
Alex (alexgrote at grotegang.com) yet, please do so immediately.  Even if you
can't make the judging sessions please come by and celebrate at the awards
ceremony and cheer on your fellow poets for all the hard work (brewing and
judging) they've done.

I unfortunately will not be able to attend the June meeting, but you all
will be left in good hands with Andrew, Alex, Matt, and Amy.
