[Liquidpoets] May LP Meeting @ Pateros Creek - Thurs 5/2

Liquid Poets President president at liquidpoets.com
Wed Apr 24 10:56:00 MDT 2013

Hey Poets,

Our next LP meeting will be at Pateros Creek Brewery on Thursday, May 2nd @
7:00 PM.
We will have a beer social for the first ~ 15 min. You can bring any
homebrews you would like to share with the group.

1) We will be doing a tasting panel. If you have any beers (or meads and
ciders) that you want specific feedback on please bring them. This is an
opportunity to get very direct comments on beer attributes and style for
your good or bad beers. Also, if you have beer that you know has a specific
"problem" - bring it! This is a great educational opportunity to train
other people on beer attributes and taints.

2) Maibock / Helles Bock (5A) is the May style of the month. If you have a
one, please bring it for the table. We will also have some commercial
examples for this style. These discussions will be led by BJCP judges and
are a great opportunity to really dissect the diversity and qualification
for certain beer styles.

Also, the style of the month for the remainder of the year is listed below:

June - Saison (16C)
July - Bohemian Pilsner (2B)
August - Belgian Tripel (18C)
September - Oktoberfest (3B)
October - Spice, Herb, or Vegetable (21A)
November - Imperial IPA (14C)
December - Russian Imperial Stout (13F)

3) We will be doing the Iron Brewer Challenge at the May meeting. The
challenge is a beer that uses bacon. The goal is to brew any style, but you
have to use bacon, and the bacon flavor should be balanced well with the
selected style. If any vegetarians/vegans want to use a bacon flavored
meat substitute such as Bacos, that would be okay too.

 4) We will be judging for the next club-only competition at the May
meeting. The competition this time is for extract beers, where 50% or more
of the fermentable sugars must come from the use of malt extract. I know a
lot of you already have some great extract beers brewed, so bring them to
the next meeting if you think you have one good enough to represent the
club. For those of you who don’t know, the club-only competition is where
we compete against other AHA sanctioned clubs. We will select one beer to
represent our club, and the club will pay the fees and shipping costs. You
can find more info about it here:

*Big Brew*

Big Brew Day is coming up soon so be sure to save the date of Saturday, May
4th. This is one of the most fun events of the year and you definitely
don’t want to miss it! Big Brew is a celebration of National Homebrew Day.
Each year homebrewers around the world invite family and friends to their
brewing site on the first Saturday in May to celebrate the holiday.
Everyone is encouraged to brew, enjoy the fun and join in on a world-wide
toast at noon CDT. Big Brew will be at my house again this year. The
address is 712 Cambridge Dr, Fort Collins 80525. Things will get started at
9 AM. Hops and Berries have been kind enough to sponsor the event again.
They will be providing meat for the grill, and everyone is encouraged to
bring a side dish. There will also be plenty of homebrew on tap to drink.
Hope to see you there!

*New Website Coming Soon!*

The new Liquid Poets website is almost complete. We will be going live
with the new site by next week. It’s a huge improvement over the old site
and we are very excited about it!

Cheers,

Matt Smith
