[Liquidpoets] Board Elections, November LP meeting, and more!!!
Liquid Poets President
president at liquidpoets.com
Tue Oct 29 15:27:05 MDT 2013
Hey Poets,
Board elections will be conducted at the *December* meeting which means we
need some nominations! We will be accepting nominations for all positions.
It would be great to see self-nominations. I want to encourage people with
the desire and motivation to contribute their ideas or talents to the
greater membership, however, you can also nominate other people.
We will also be accepting nominations (via email) up to 1 week from the
meeting. The deadline is Nov 14th, at midnight. Once all the nominations
have been collected, we will have a 1 week period (until Nov 21st at
midnight) to retract your name from the list if you do not want or are
unable to fulfill the duties of the position. The complete list will then
be sent out to the membership and online voting will commence. Online
voting will continue until the meeting on December 5th. We will also have
voting at the meeting for those that do not participate online. Finally,
we will tally the votes at the meeting and announce the 2013 Board.
Just as a reminder, here is a quick description of the positions on the
board:
*President* - this position is responsible for leading the club at meetings
and through the year. They will work closely with other board members as
well as delegate to non-board members to get things done. They will be
responsible for announcing meetings and other news pertinent to the
membership. They represent the club and are responsible for outreach and
welcoming new members. They are responsible for the Monthly newsletter to
the membership. Finally, they are responsible for calling together the
board for meetings which traditionally happen quarterly but are at the
discretion of the president. Ultimately, this is not a difficult or time
consuming position. It is mainly a communication position and is nice if
you can provide some energy and excitement about and/or behind the club.
*Vice President - *this position is responsible for backing the president
in all of the previously mentioned duties, especially when the President is
not able.
*Events Coordinator - *this position is responsible for coordinating with
all the other breweries in town to provide an annual meeting schedule.
They are the contact between the club and the breweries for club meetings.
They are responsible for confirming meeting arrangements in the week/s
prior to the meeting. They are also responsible for coordinating all other
events that the LPs get involved including, Summer BBQ, Xmas Party, and
other Beer events.
*Competition Coordinator -* this position is responsible for conducting,
coordinating, planning, and arranging all things competition for the LPs.
The main event is the LP Slam/Muse Cup that happens in June. This is a
very time consuming position and will require effort, however, it is very
important for the club. The Competition Coordinator will also appoint an
Assistant Competition Coordinator to assist with the competition-related
duties.
*Treasure - *this position handles the finances of the club. They are
responsible for cutting checks to the appropriate people when necessary.
They also are the person who deals with the bank. This position requires
an organized and reliable person. They are responsible for doing all the
book work also - making sure all the pluses and minus add up.
*Board-at-large (4) - *these positions are advisory positions for the other
positions. They represent the rest of the membership at the board
meetings. They often are involved with committees and sub groups to get
other things done behind the scenes such as website work, etc…
This is a rough list of the responsibilities and is in no way complete.
The important thing to remember is that this is a volunteer group and the
only way things get done is by volunteering your time.

Our next LP meeting will be at *New Belgium Brewery* on Thursday, *November 7th
*@ 7:00 PM.
1) There will be 2 tours of the brewery for a limited number of people who
are able to get there earlier, but you must RSVP to go on the tour. Andy
Mitchell has arranged for us to get a more "behind the scenes" look into
the brew house, cellar, and packaging than most of us have experienced
before. The first tour will start at 5:30 and the other will start at 6
pm. Each tour will last about 90 minutes, and there will be a 25-person
cap on each tour. You must RSVP to Alison Rosso at
events at liquidpoets.comin order to go on the tour. You must also wear
closed-toe shoes on the
tour.
2) We will have a beer social for the first ~ 30 minutes. You can bring
any homebrews you would like to share with the group.
3) We will be doing tasting panel. If you have any beers (or meads and
ciders) that you want specific feedback on please bring them. This is an
opportunity to get very direct comments on beer attributes and style for
your good or bad beers. Also, if you have beer that you know has a
specific "problem" - bring it! This is a great educational opportunity to
train other people on beer attributes and taints.
4) *Imperial IPA* (BJCP: 14C) is the November style of the month. If you
have a one, please bring it for the table. We will have a couple
commercial examples for calibration. Discussions will be led by BJCP
judges and is a great opportunity to really dissect the diversity and
qualification for certain beer styles. For brewers who are interested in
learning how competition beer judging works - this is the table to be
seated at!
5) Our Xmas Party has been scheduled for *Saturday, Dec 14th*. This is a
potluck style dinner so please bring a side. The club will provide a large
meat of sorts (perhaps BBQ). We will also have a lineup of homebrew on tap
that have been crafted by your fellow brewers. There will be a silent
auction at the party to benefit the Larimer County Food Bank. If anyone
has any cool beer-related things they would like to donate for the silent
auction let me know. All of the proceeds will go to the Larimer Food Bank.
6) We still need a few more people to brew beer for the Xmas party. Let me
know if you are willing to brew a 5 gal batch. The club will reimburse you
for the cost of the ingredients. To make things interesting, we will be
voting on the best beer that was brewed for the party and the winner will
get a $25 gift certificate to Hops and Berries. Here is who has
volunteered to brew so far:
Andy Mitchell – session pale / IPA
Josh O’Malley – juniper IPA
Kevin Murphy - red ale
Doc - Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale clone
Taylor – dark sour saison
Chris Kregoski – pumpkin beer or big stout
