Poets and Muses,

Our next meeting will be held at the Fort Collins Brewery from 7-9pm on
Thursday, March 6th.

The format will be:

Club social. For the first 30 minutes or so, before breaking out into our
regular groups, meet and greet new members and old friends alike. Let folks
try your homebrew and try other's as well. This is the time to get to know
club members and enjoying geeking out over our favorite fermented beverages.

Tasting panel. This is an informal panel and an opportunity for you to get
direct feedback about specific beers/meads/ciders/etc that you have brewed.
If you have something with a defect, please bring it! This is an
opportunity for everyone to learn about defects and for you to learn what
caused it and how to avoid it in the future.

BJCP panel. Continuing with a new group started this year, we'll hold a
BJCP panel for beers. Participating in this panel means a couple of
things. (1) You'll provide the panel with a dedicated bottle of beer and
(2) you'll sit with the judges, who will go over the score sheet and their
scoring of your beer with you. This is an opportunity to learn how your
beers might be judged in a competition. If you'd like to learn more about
how to judge beer, then volunteer for the panel. You'll be grouped in with
BJCP judges and you can start to get a feel for what it takes to judge beer
at a competition.

DISCLAIMERS: (1) All beer judges will judge a little bit differently. This
is a learning experience and doesn't necessarily reflect actual scores your
beer may receive in a competition. (2) Your beer might receive a lower
score than you think it deserves. This is never in anyway personal and can
happen for all kinds of reasons. Our judges are as unbiased as possible.
Again, this is a learning experience for both you and (quite possibly) the
judge. Don't take it personally and DON'T BE AFRAID!

Style of the Month. The style for March is "officially" Northern German Alt
bier. However, we will be accepting and evaluating Düsseldorf Alt bier as
well. These are hard-to-find styles with sparse representation in American
craft brewing and little to no exports to be found outside of Germany.
We'll be relying quite a bit on our homebrewing prowess for authentic
replications. I will bring what commercial examples I can find, but I hope
some of you have brewed for this (I have :).

The styles for April and May are Oatmeal Stout (13C) and American IPA (14B)
respectively, so start brewing now!

See you there!

Jason L Connor
