Hello Poets!
Our December meeting will be held this Thursday, December 1st at Odells
from 7:30-9:30pm. Please note the change in start time! The tap room
closes at 7:00pm so they need a little bit of time to get prepared for us.
*2017 Elections for Board of Directors:*
Given the lack of enthusiastic self nominations for the 2017 Board of
Directors, we are not quite ready to start voting yet. I'm still hopeful
that we get a few more people willing to volunteer to serve on the Board.
As soon as we have a realistic ballot ready, we will get the voting setup
and available. We are only successful as a club due to the work and
leadership of our members, and particularly the Board each year. Please
consider running for a Board position for 2017! We are still looking for
people willing to be President, Treasurer, Events Coordinator, and
Competition Coordinator for 2017. Please let me know if you have any
questions regarding these critical roles.
*2016 Festivus Party & Food Bank Silent Auction:*
We will once again be gathering to celebrate another great year of home
brewing and holding a silent auction to benefit the Larimer County Food
Bank. Please mark your calendars for an evening of celebration and fund
raising for our community on the evening of *Saturday December 10th!* The
date has changed from our last email due to the best possible time for our
hosts. We will once again be fortunate enough to have the great folks
at *Horse
& Dragon* host us for our party. As usual the club will provide the main
course protein as well as a vegetarian option and we will potluck the rest
of the meal with tasty contributions of those attending. I sent out a
specific email about the party and silent auction last week and I'll make
sure to follow up again in the coming weeks.
*Iron Brewer Challenge - January 2017 Meeting:*
Our next Iron Brewer Challenge is for the best Double IPA brewed with at
least 0.5lbs of simple sugar (honey, sugar, molasses, etc.) per 5 gallons.
These will be judged at the January meeting, so you still have a little
time to get one brewed! Bring one unmarked bottle to the meeting and see
if you can win the bragging rights, a $25 gift card to Hops & Berries, and
you get the pick the next challenge!
*Tasting Panel:*
Since we seem to always have a lot going on at meetings, and those wanting
feedback on beers may not always remember to bring 2 bottles, we are going
to try something new with the tasting panel over the next couple of
months. We are going to ask those who are BJCP certified judges if they
would be willing to give one-on-one feedback to other members who are
seeking it. Those BJCP members who are willing will have a special name
tag denoting that they are willing to take a minute or two and review your
beer with you. If you are BJCP certified, and you are willing to help out
other club members at our meetings, please let one of the Board Members
know and we will get you setup with the special name tag.
*Beer Social:*
As usual, we will gather around the beer table for the first 15-20 minutes
of the meeting and greet new and old friends alike. Bring something you
have made recently, something you have had aging for a while, or anything
in between. Let's sample some great home brew!
*Style of the Month:*
Overall the goal this year will be to have a couple of commercial examples
and a number of home brewed examples at each meeting. The focus of the
table will be to examine the examples based on the BJCP Guidelines and see
how will they compare. Hopefully this will be in informative table where
members can get down and dirty with the details of the chosen style.
December’s Style of the month is Imperial Stout (20C) and Oatmeal Stout
(16B) so bring your best examples of these to share! Below is the full
list for Style of the Month. If you are interested in leading one of these
tables, please let me know and I'll get you penciled in.
*Style of the Month List:*
December – Imperial Stout (20C) and Oatmeal Stout (16B)
I hope to see most of you in a few days at Odells!
Cheers!
Alex
